Go to the “Self-Help” section of any brick-and-mortar or virtual bookstore and you’ll find selections on just about every topic there is: eating disorders, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, childrearing, etc.

Mark my words, among these publications you’ll also find a book (or a series or two) which you’ve already heard of because everyone seems to be taking about it: friends, media, celebrities! But, why? What determines this kind of buzz and success in the self-help industry?

I think it boils down to two things. First? It’s a unique, simple, immediately applicable and effective concept. Second, a large audience desperately needs the specific advice given. Such is the case with the 11-million-copies-sold-and-counting franchise by Gary Chapman, PhD, author of “The 5 Love Languages” and subsequent spin-offs.

Let me explain the “… Love Languages” concept and why I often recommend it to my (stepmom) clients.
